Why Olga Volunteers
My sister Gloria passed away after an 8 year battle with Cancer. Prior to that, she had suffered a stroke that left her speechless. She lost much of her memory but one of the things she "remembered" was crochet. When she lost her hair after chemotherapy, she complained of being cold. As she got better, she made hats, gloves, blankets, and leg warmers. She also made me a hat. I cherish this little hat. My sister's hat has become a symbol of the love two sisters shared.

Why Merrie Volunteers
Having lost both my mother and father to cancer over the years, and just having lost a very dear friend, also to cancer, I was pleased when Olga told me of her idea of making hand crafted gifts and distributing them to patients who are undergoing treatment for cancer. Since I am retired and a recent widow, I have lots of time to crochet, so I volunteered to make lap blankets. I have since branched out into small stuffed animals made with the leftover yarns from my blankets.

Why Rosa Volunteers
I believe and have always believed in the saying “Every little bit counts.” Community Service is something that has always been something very dear to me, because of that idea that every little bit does counts. Our actions, no matter how small can impact others in a way that we could never imagine. When Olga told me about what she was doing I asked if I could make these pillows as gifts for the patients and she gladly welcomed them. So now here I am.

Sew Hooked on Caring Volunteers donate hand sewn, crochet, and knit items, such as blankets, hats, scarves, beanies, pillows and stuffed animals to Cancer Patients at Hospitals and Infusion Centers in Los Angeles County, California. We share our craft to bring a moment of joy and laughter to patients going through treatments such as chemotherapy, platelets, etc.
